Losing Your Spirit
Kendrick Lamar is a hip hop artist in 2013 who released a song that said, “Don’t Kill My Vibe”. This song is very relevant to this scripture in that the believer’s “vibe” is the spirit that dwells within. Let’s make it clear that the Spirit within the individual cannot be destroyed but the believer can be disheartened spiritually in two ways.
First, the believer can lose their savour! The savour lost by the believer is their zest or fire by being distracted. The believer is to always look up and live, but, if they are distracted and look elsewhere, their source of their strength and zest is lost.
Second, the believer can deny the power of the Spirit that is within them. When God has taken habitation in your life, when God has filled you with His Holy Spirit, when the Presence of God is the greatest power and existence in your life, the Holy Spirit is still an option and must be chosen.
If the believer does not choose the power that is within through the Holy Spirit, the result is a seemingly Spiritless resource…no power…no zest.
So what do we do to avoid quenching the Spirit? We must stay out of the Spirit’s way. Let God be God, and let Him have His Way. Or…
