Don’t Disrespect the Gifting of the Youth
I so thank God for the Apostle Paul! He was so thorough, so real and so caring in his writing the letters/epistles in the bible. Here in this scripture Timothy is just as grateful for Paul for his understanding and protection. Paul is telling Timothy that he does not have to take the criticism from the elders or adults in the church about being young! We all know Timothy’s position. He was reared to have a quiet respect of the elders, never challenging his elders. Now Paul has elevated this young man’s role to be the leader of the same elders.
Just like how it is in the church today, these elders are trying to “run” poor Timothy…BECAUSE HE IS YOUNG.
Too often adults discredit or belittle the opinions or thoughts of youth simply because of their age. However, Paul is telling Timothy that he does not have to let them get always with “despising” his youth. God had has given Timothy an ageless gospel that must be preached and taught to the world. If the elders overlook Timothy, then they are overlooking and despising God! We adults gotta be careful!
