Ruling vs. Leading
There are many so-called or self-designated leaders out there.
People want the honor of being a leader and may not have the giftedness or vision that leadership requires.
So, the result is lots of leaders but not a lot of sound leadership. Then God tells us in His Word that we are to respect/honor/obey those who have the rule over us which puts us in subjection to those who declare themselves as leaders but do not lead well. This is not fair and certainly not fun. It is a shame when following leaders gets sensationally put into the bucket of suffering, but it does many times. At this point Paul’s comment to Timothy in the scripture realizes its true relevance. Elders that rule “well” are to be granted DOUBLE honor.
God does acknowledge a difference in the return for those who do their job well irregardless of the fact that those who lead poorly are still given some reward in honor.
It does not seem to be what is right, but we see God granting double honor for those who rule well in order to show His pleasure. Then, finally, ruling well is to rule in the doctrine and word!
