Divine Sobriety
There is a song out these days in the Rap/Hip Hop genre that talks about the worldly tactics that the rapper employs to “get his mind right”!!! It is amazing the lengths that the person will go through to make sure that their mind is aligned to the task at hand: money, women, success, notoriety and power. Here in 1Peter, Peter tells the believer how to “get their mind right” for the long haul in Christ.
First, we have to strap up our minds so that our mind is guided and driven to the things of God.
Then secondly, we must be “sober” which means to continually be aligned with the Word, Will and Way of God.
Lastly we must consistently fuel our lives with the hope of Jesus, the Christ, which propels our vision to the eternal reward to come. With this vision, the things of this world a minuscule and petty! Hallelujah! What seems so huge, in the context of God’s great plan for my life, is now just a test!!!!!
