Text:
Psalms 23:1-6:
1: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2: He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3: He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5: Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Theme:
I’m Satisfied With Jesus
Introduction:
- The first time that I went to the gravesite of my Grandmother after her burial was actually about 9 years afterwards. When I went, it was a powerful time. I walked around the grave seven times and watched as God worked in and around my spirit to bring down the walls of fear and weakness to reveal to me in a Word that I was to be about my Father’s business. Then I really noticed the words on the top of the tombstone, “The Lord Is My Shepherd”.
- The 23rd Psalm is a very familiar Psalm that I often heard my Grandmother recite and read as consolation and comfort…power and peace…affirmation and assertion.
- David had the same approach in his writing of the 23rd Both my Grandmother and David can be summarized in giving on testimony through this passage of scripture, “I’m Satisfied with Jesus”!
Body:
- Why is David SATISFIED?
- 1 – David doesn’t have to want for anything
- 2 – 1)God blesses David with known and unrecognized blessings. 2)God keeps David in peace.
- 3 – God restores and then directs David in the ways of Divine Will.
- 4 – No matter what David is going through, David doesn’t fear because God’s correction and direction give David comfort (Holy Spirit, the Comforter)
- 5 – In spite of those trying to tear him down, David is blessed by God, chosen by God, and then used as a servant sent by God to bless others.
- 6 – 1)God will always pervade his life with goodness and mercy. 2)He is SAVED!!!!!!!
Conclusion:
- As Paul said in Philippians 4:11, “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
- Paul proclaimed the same as David and my Grandmother
- Where ever God allows me to be, is alright with me…I’m Satisfied!
- We always say that we are SAVED and SANCTIFIED, but the real question is whether we are SAVED and SATISFIED?
- Too many of us are simply SAVED and COMPLAINING!
- However, in the words of the gospel song,
- Paul proclaimed the same as David and my Grandmother
“I am so satisfied with my Savior. He means more to me that anything in this world can ever hope for me”
-
I am satisfied with Jesus!
