Romans 10:13-15:
13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14: How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

Theme:
We Need A Preacher
Introduction:
- The book of Romans is a letter written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Rome. This letter gives the basis for believing in Jesus.
- The 10th Chapter is the crux of the book epitomizing the plea made to the sinner to be saved.
- Our text focuses on an explanation of the role of the preacher
- We Need A Preacher!
- “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”
- “whosoever”
- The Bible uses the word whosoever to show that all are eligible.
- Ezekiel 33:4, “Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.”
- Joel 2:32, “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.”
- John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
- The Bible uses the word whosoever to show that all are eligible.
- These days we tend to take this to mean that we don’t need a preacher.
- We can be saved without a preacher
- We can do it all ourselves
- God gives us all that we need in and of ourselves to be saved
- However,
We Need A Preacher
- “whosoever”
Body:
- “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed”
- How can you call on someone whom you do not believe in?
- “how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard”
- How can you believe in someone whom you have not heard of?
- “how shall they hear without a preacher”
- How can you hear of someone without someone to tell you about them? PREACHING IS ESSENTIAL!
- Reading the bible is not enough
- Hearing an opinion is not enough
- Having spiritual conversations is not enough
- What you gain from God using the preacher:
- Understanding — Proverbs 4:7 shows us that we need understanding, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
- Clarity — 2Timothy 2:15 gives the purpose for the preacher’s training, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
- The preacher is the one God uses to clear up what you can’t figure out on your own.
- How can you hear of someone without someone to tell you about them? PREACHING IS ESSENTIAL!
- “how shall they preach, except they be sent”
- The definition of an apostle is one who is Divinely Sent
- If you are not Divinely Sent then you might as well not be sent at all!
- The old folks used to say about preachers that “Some were SENT and some just WENT!”
- Matthew 28:19 says, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
- How can you preach about something that you don’t know about.
- In 1Timothy 2:5-7 we have Paul’s testimony, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.”
- The definition of an apostle is one who is Divinely Sent
- “How beautiful are the feet of them”
- The “feet” of the Preacher à Lifestyle, path
- Ephesians 6:15, “And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;”
- You can see God in all facets of his life
- Romans 16:20, “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”
- The life that he lives injures or defeats Satan
- Revelations 1:15, “And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace;”
- He lives a flawless life…liken to polished brass has a flawless finish
- Not perfect, but PERFECTED
- 1Timothy 3:7, “Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.”
- He lives a flawless life…liken to polished brass has a flawless finish
- Ephesians 6:15, “And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;”

Conclusion:
- “that preach the gospel of peace”
- Paul often spoke of the Gospel or Good News being one of peace. As he says in Hebrews 13:20-21, “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
- “bring glad tidings of good things”
- The preacher is a descendent of one of the first preachers of the Gospel in the New Testament…the Angels:
- Luke 2:10, “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”
- We Need A Preacher!
- God uses a Preacher to provide salvation to His people:
- God used a preacher, Noah, to deliver the cherished remnant of world through the Great Flood.
- God used a preacher, Abraham, to be the Father of the Nation.
- God used a preacher, Moses, to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt and across the Red Sea.
- God used a preacher, Joshua, to lead the children of Israel across the River Jordan and into Canaan.
- God used a preacher, Elijah, to defame the Gods of Baal on Mt. Carmel and proclaim Jehovah as the only true God.
- God used a preacher, John the Baptist, to be the forerunner to Christ to tell the world that salvation was on the way.
- God used a preacher, Peter, to give the first sermon of the Christian church on the day of Pentecost after which three thousand souls were saved.
- But I’m so glad that, even when there isn’t a preacher around, God still moves on my behalf:
- Romans 8:26-27, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
