The Power of Words
People just don’t know how to talk to each other. It is crazy to think that someone can talk to me any kind of way…call me out of my name…leave me broke and destitute and then think that the Love and Grace of God is supposed make it ok. It is NOT! I know that God loves me. I know that God’s love is the fuel that drives me to heights that I could not reach on my own. But it is not enough to guarantee my forgiving you for talking to me crazily. I know the Grace of God that was what gave me a second chance when I should have been taken down, when I should have been cut off and when I should have been overlooked, but it is not guarateed that it is enough to make me forgive you for calling me out of my name. As I have told people at times in the past, “don’t mess with me or you may get to find out what God has saved me FROM”. However, there is the converse of this situation when a person speaks softly and lovely. This chills me out, makes me reasonable and lures me to peace and reconciliation. In ministry we can flip this power to others. To get the attention, respect and maybe receptiveness of a person we should speak with softness. Why should we expect someone to hear us and believe God when we speak harshly?
