Text:
Romans 5:1-6:
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Theme:
He Made A Way
Introduction:
- The Apostle Paul wrote the Book of Romans during his third visit to the city of Corinth.
- Romans was written for two primary reasons:
- 1)to reveal the Gospel that God has no respect of person and is a God for the Gentiles also, and
- 2)to correct the legalistic teachings found in the area at the time.
- The book is written in seven parts spanning from the conviction of all under sin as in Romans 3:23 where it states that “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” to the outflow of Christian love shown in Paul’s salutations to the various believers in Chapter 16.
- Romans was written for two primary reasons:
- Then as we read our text, our hearts burn in the recognition of God’s 4-P’s in our lives
- His PRESENCE
- His POWER
- His PEACE
- His PROTECTION
- These first six verses of Romans, chapter 5, outline a primary testimony of the child of God…
- HE MADE A WAY!
Body:
- Theologically, this scripture in Romans chapter 5 refers to our SALVATION.
- Verse 1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”
- Our faith in Jesus, the Christ, is the beginning of our SALVATION.
- Verse 6 says, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly”
- Jesus, the Christ, established SALVATION for us through His dieing on the cross and being resurrected.
- He offered the free pardon of our sins that doom us to eternal damnation.
- Jesus, the Christ, established SALVATION for us through His dieing on the cross and being resurrected.
- Verse 1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”
- We have a WAY TO SALVATION that is the result of God’s Divine Plan of Salvation
- God had an ultimate plan that included giving humanity a WAY to be saved from the permanence and suffering of death
- The WAY is marked by four primary events in the believer’s life: 1) BIRTH, 2) CONVERSION (Salvation), 3) DEATH and 4) PARADISE
- Birth
- Job 14:1, “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.”
- Conversion
- Acts 3:19, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”
- Death
- Hebrews 9:27, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
- Paradise
- Luke 23:43, “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
- Practically, the way to salvation can be expressed in the following.
- Repent
- Believe in (and on) Jesus Christ
- Be baptized
- Receive the Holy Ghost
- Therefore, to clarify our language…
- Conversion is a PROCESS
- Salvation is an EVENT
- Birth
- Practically, this scripture in Romans chapter 5 refers to our REAL LIFE TESTIMONY
- He made a way…OUT OF NO WAY!!!
- FIRST à I REALIZED that there was NO WAY without God
- I realized through “hitting walls” è the “walls” made me feel that there was NO WAY
- There was FAILURE (No Way), DISAPPOINTMENT (No Way), LONELINESS (No Way), FRUSTRATION (No Way), WEAKNESS (No Way), DEPRESSION (No Way)
- In summary, I hit the “wall” of metaphysical DEATH…any existence without God
- Living in the Flesh IS TO live by the Law WHICH LEAD TO DEATH
- I realized through “hitting walls” è the “walls” made me feel that there was NO WAY
- SECOND à In Him I FOUND a way
- This is how God made a way for me!! (verses 3-5 of the text)
- Tribulation à We start with the tribulations, trials, troubles of this life!
- Worketh Patience à To endure these tribulations develops patience with us
- 2Timothy 2:3, “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
- Romans 8:25, “But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.”
- Patience experience à Through patience we gain experiences that develop wisdom
- Ecclesiastes 1:16, “I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.”
- Experience hope à Our testimony becomes, “If I can make it through this, I can make it through anything!”
- Job 23:10, “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”
- Hope maketh not ashamed à Our hope is not unfounded!! Jesus is coming back!!!!
- Hebrews 9:28, “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
- HE MADE A WAY!!!!!!!! For me to see Him come back!!
- This is how God made a way for me!! (verses 3-5 of the text)
- FIRST à I REALIZED that there was NO WAY without God
- He made a way…OUT OF NO WAY!!!
Conclusion:
- THIRD à Through the death of Jesus, the Christ, and His resurrection, I HAVE NEW LIFE!
- He made a way for me to have NEW LIFE!!!
- 2Corinthians 3:6, “Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”
- Romans 2:6-7, “Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:”
- John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
