Focus On Things Above
The scripture tells us that we are to “set our affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” There are scriptures that tell us that we are to focus, look, seek those things that are of Heaven and not concern or worry about those things of the earth. However, this scripture in Colossians uses a very specific and unique word in the context of focusing on Heaven…affections. This word is one that convicts me extensively because it addresses what makes me a human being…my affections…what I want…what drives me…what guides my actions, thinking and feelings. Literally the word, affections, refers to those things that “affect” us or have an impact on us. Simply put, what makes me feel something. The young people say that they are the things that make us “feel some type of way”. So, to set our affection means to only allow those things above (Heaven) to impact our feelings and actions. Amen!!!!
