Giving and Money
Giving has always been a sensitive topic in the black church in America. When people don’t have much, to give is to “give up”. To give is to “give away”. To have some people to give is to ask them to let go of not the wants in life but the needs. This leaves many torn spiritually. Then the Bible tells us that we cannot take care of God’s house if we are not adequately taking care of our own homes. Grace truly becomes our best friend here. Sometime we don’t know what the right answer is even though we have to give an answer in that moment. The Holy Spirit is where our answer must come from. Let the Holy Spirit touch and tell, move and unction, so that you can have some clarity as to what you are to do. The people of Israel in this scripture did just that. They gave because their 1)heart was stirred up and their 2)spirit was made willing. The Holy Spirit can do this for us to lead and guide us in our giving. It is not about mathematics or finance. It is not only about obedience. It is about your heart and spirit. These will allow us to give cheerfully and not grudgingly. Amen!
