Vanity
It is not good to SEEK recognition. It is honorable to HUMBLY RECEIVE recognition. Vain glory is self-serving recognition for an achievement. Although it may seem to be harmless, the desire for it, as the scripture highlights, drives the person to ungodly and carnal feelings toward other people…specifically resentment and envy. Vain glory is an addictive drug that yield a hunger that is never satisfied.
We seek vain glory to the point that we begin to covet what other people’s recognition.
We seek vain glory to the point that we get an attitude when others get recognition and we don’t.
We seek vain glory to the point that our desire is the glory and less the actual accomplishment!
We start to want the recognition but NOT want the work! Of course, this is counterproductive for the believer. We can’t look for God to save us when we are not willing to go through some suffering. We can’t look for God to deliver us when we are unwilling to confess our sins. We can’t look for God to have mercy on us when we are unwilling to forgive someone else. Don’t get addicted to vain glory!!!
