The Weight and The Sin
In life oftentimes we are our own worst enemies. We jump to quickly blame everything and everyone outside of ourselves as to why we suffer what we suffer. “O woe is me!” is the cry that we exclaim hoping that someone hears us and has pity on us. Empathy would be great, but if nothing else sympathy is just fine. But oftentimes and I will go as far is to say EVERY TIME…the problem is within us! Paul tells us here that we just need to get rid of two things…weight and sin. WEIGHT is burden. This is what slows us down. Weight can be either good or bad things. Weight can be either wrong or right things. The wisdom is in knowing what God ordains for us to bear and what God DOES NOT ordain for us to bear. The bible says that God will not give us any more than what we can bear. That is true. So when it is too much we have taken something on that we were not told by God to carry. Secondly, we must get rid of sin. This is the more theologically understandable problem. God offers to offload sin…not take it on. God wants us to give sin to Him and not carry it ourselves.
