Breaking and Making
I remember when I was growing up we used to hear the following things in reference to our getting a spanking or whooping, “This is gonna hurt me more than it hurts you.” or “Spare the rod and spoil the child.” or “It builds your character”. These are all stated in the context of embracing and valuing the corporal and spiritual punishment that our parents brought to some of us. It is much the same with God.
God is our Father who at times needs to chasten or spank us metaphysically because we are not hearing or respecting him by His standards.
So, regardless of your parents’ reasons, God is always doing it for your good. Regardless of how you may feel about it, God is always doing it for your good. Regardless of the severity of the deed, God is always driving toward your betterment. Don’t turn away from God. Don’t try to avoid the punishment. Don’t hold a resentment toward God for allowing it. Then lastly, don’t think that it is bad to continually be corrected by God. It is a process that we continually experience as we strive to be better all the time. It’s not just you. All of us need, appreciate and are grateful for God’s correction. It is the development by which we are continually perfected.
