Old to New
The concepts of old and new plague the life of the Christian in that there is a toggling or wavering between the two when there actually should not be. We are supposed to shift to the NEW and leave the OLD. In Information Technology we express the concept of the CUTOVER. This is the situation where we are replacing the OLD system with a NEW one. CUTOVER means that the old system is disabled and the new system in turned on. CUTOVER works well in IT because the OLD system is no longer an option. However, with the life of the Christian, the OLD way of thinking, doing things and living is still an option even after the NEW has been employed. We cheat on the NEW with the OLD.
Even though the old is certain death, even though the new is eternal life, we continually bounce back and forth.
However, we are offered the opportunity to live in the newness of the Spirit of God and not be bound by the letter of the Law! What a privilege! We don’t deserve it, but God has done it! I don’t think it is by choice though. Because the Law, flesh and sin remain as an option, we allow ourselves to be drawn and attached to what takes our life. Makes no sense, but that’s how we are… 🙁
