I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Theme:
The Fallacy of Just Enough
Introduction:
- In Romans, Paul is writing to a group of people who are the heart of the Gentile nation.
- These are a people who do not and cannot relate to the strict traditions and rhetoric existing in the Jewish community.
- They couldn’t understand “Old folk talk”.
- They needed things to be broken down to plain and simple terms that relate to their real existence.
- Paul did just that.
- He wrote Romans closer to the “How To” methodology than any of his letters.
- The church in Rome was begun by Christians after Pentecost and had in its population a large number of Romans or Gentiles.
- Paul’s purpose is to explain the great “truths” of the gospel to the Jewish-Gentile church in Rome
- It is unique in that it is a systematic exposition of the gospel of universal applicationàSalvation is free to all.
- In the 12th chapter of Paul’s Letter to the Romans, Paul is addressing
- Consecration to God
- Duty towards God
- Duty towards Ourselves
- Due Exercise of Spiritual Gifts
- Duty towards Our Brethren
- Brotherly Love
- Love to Enemies
- Our text takes the initial poke at the problem statement of mankind in so many areas…only doing JUST ENOUGH!
- Let’s study look at The Fallacy of JUST ENOUGH
Body:
- First of all, what is a FALLACY?
- “Deceptive or false appearance”
- It’s a trick…a rouse…a veneer…a hustle…a lie
- What you see or think is not what you get or what it is!!!
- “mistake”
- It is wrong in and of itself
- It is wrong for you
- It is wrong for your situation
- In short, it is NOT the answer that you thought it was!
- “Deceptive or false appearance”
- I can relate to the concept of JUST ENOUGH being associated with being a FALLACY… (seems like a trend)
- In RELATIONSHIPS, I tried to do JUST ENOUGH…
- It was always hard to measure in a moment…kept changing
- It was never enough for the other person
- It was always eventually taken for granted
- It left me lacking in what satisfied me and what I needed
- In MY CAREER, I tried to do JUST ENOUGH…
- It was always hard to measure in a moment…kept changing
- It was never enough for the company
- It was always eventually taken for granted
- It left me lacking in money and promotion
- In TAKING CARE OF SELF, I tried to do JUST ENOUGH…
- It was always hard to measure in a moment…kept changing
- It was never enough for me
- I was always eventually taken for granted
- It left me lacking in what satisfied me and what I needed in the end
- In HAVING FUN, I tried to do JUST ENOUGH…
- It was always hard to measure in a moment…kept changing
- It was never enough for me, always wanted more
- It was always eventually taken for granted and was not fun any more
- It left me lacking in what satisfied me and what I needed in the end
- In MY RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, I tried to do JUST ENOUGH…
- It was always hard to measure in a moment…kept changing
- It was never enough for God
- I always eventually took God for granted
- I realized it left me lacking in what satisfied me and what I needed
- As the better alternative to doing JUST ENOUGH, our text implicitly directs us to give ALL!
- In RELATIONSHIPS, I tried to do JUST ENOUGH…
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service”
- Give God ALL that you have!
- “present your bodies”
- The GOOD…the BAD…the UGLY
- Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his”
- “present your bodies”
- Give ALL that you have with ALL of the ability that you have
- “a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God”
- Go to God and go RIGHT
- Pray to God and pray RIGHT
- Walk with God and walk RIGHT
- Colossians 3:23, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”
- “a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God”
- Give ALL that you have with ALL of the ability that you have to do ALL that you can for God
- “which is your reasonable service”
- We are not doing God a favor, it is what we are SUPPOSED to do!
- James 2:20, “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”
- “which is your reasonable service”
- God wants…God deserves…God commands…God only tolerates…ALL!!!
Conclusion:
- I THANK MY GOD for the day when I decided to give God ALL!!!
- The world was getting all…so I might as well give ALL to God
- I could not manage it all…so I might as well give ALL to God
- I was messing it all up…so I might as well give ALL to God
- God kept calling and requiring all from me…so I might as well give ALL to God
- It was so much better when I let God handle it…so I might as well give ALL to God
- When I give it ALL to God He gives me even more back…so I might as well give ALL to God
- It is His Will that I be His totally …so I might as well give ALL to God
- So I won’t make the mistake of trying to do JUST ENOUGH
…I will give ALL to God!!
