Text:
1Corinthians 10:13-14:
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
Theme:
You Can Make It
This was intended to be the sermon for an engagement that I missed due to my having written the wrong date down. I completed this sermon in the diligence of one who truly needed to “make it”. I felt a failure. I doubted my self and my being. I DOUBTED GOD! I needed to know for myself now…I CAN MAKE IT!
Introduction:
The First Letter of Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth.
-
- Paul’s focus in this letter was Christian Conduct.
- The church in Corinth was as churches are now.
- As it says in Romans 10:1, “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.”
- They are doing as Colossians 2:18 explains, “…intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,”
- Paul gives us a word of encouragement in the text by giving the message è YOU CAN MAKE IT!
- “There hath no temptation taken you” – You are gonna have some trials and tribulations!
- By birth à Job 14:1, “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.”
- From within à Romans 7:15, “For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.”
- From experiences à Psalms 88:3, “For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.”
- We sometimes wonder “How Long?”
- Habakkuk 1:2, “O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!”
- But don’t worry…YOU CAN MAKE IT!!!
- The troubles give credence to the question in Genesis 18:14, “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?”
- The answer is NO!!!
- Psalms 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
- Psalms 138:7, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.”
- The answer is NO!!!
- The troubles give credence to the question in Genesis 18:14, “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?”
Body:
- There are some things about these trials, tribulations, temptations, struggles, tough times, toils, valleys, hurdles, ditches, or just downright frustrations!!! à Know your enemy!
- “such as is common to man” – God is not just picking on YOU!!!
- Don’t worry è YOU CAN MAKE IT because it is in the order of your existence to make it.
- Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
- 2Timothy 2:3, “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
- Don’t worry è YOU CAN MAKE IT because it is in the order of your existence to make it.
- “God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able” – It’s not too much for you!!
- Don’t worry è YOU CAN MAKE IT because the temptation was made for you…not you for the temptation.
- Acts 23:11, “And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.”
- Isaiah 41:13, “For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.”
- Don’t worry è YOU CAN MAKE IT because the temptation was made for you…not you for the temptation.
-
- “with the temptation also make a way to escape” à God has already made a way for you!!
- Don’t worry è YOU CAN MAKE IT because God has made it possible.
- Matthew 10:22, “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”
- James 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”
- 2 Timothy 3:11, “Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.”

Conclusion:

- Jesus is our example and way maker!!
- Hebrews 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
- Because of Jesus, YOU can make it!!!
- Firstly, understand that there is a cost to pay for such privileges…SALVATION!
- Admit – I am a sinner
- Submit – I submit all my sinful self to God
- Commit – I commit my life to His Word, Will, and Way for me
- Transmit – Tell someone else of what God has done for me
- Don’t worry è YOU CAN MAKE IT because God has willed it to be so.
- “that ye may be able to bear it” à God wants you to succeed!
- Take a lesson from Paul in the Book of Acts:
Acts 27:31 & 44, “Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved…And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.”
- Stay on the ship!!!!!!
Tis the Old Ship of Zion
Tis the Old Ship of Zion
Tis the Old Ship of Zion
Get on board, get on board
- Jesus said in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
